Maria Montessori recognized the inherent connection between the body and the mind and the importance of movement  in the implementation of learning and integration of new knowledge.  Therefore, St. Helena Montessori students are engaged in developmentally appropriate physical activity at all ages.  At the Primary level children are exposed to activities that complement their cognitive and physical development, from marching on a line to swinging on monkey bars.  The Elementary classes run a mile twice a week and as part of a Physical Expressions program the Adolescent students do everything from CrossFit to tennis to horseback riding.

The St. Helena Montessori extracurricular athletics program is also dynamic and growing.  As members of the North Bay Catholic School League SHMS students compete in extracurricular basketball, volleyball, and track.
